welcome to the Miriam school

Selecting a specialized school for your child is a big step. A family’s choice of a special education private school program can be a difficult one. At Miriam, we believe that a strong partnership with our families can help to ensure that the best match is made. We make every effort to articulate our vision for education as clearly as possible, so that parents can make an informed decision when considering our school.

The admissions process is specifically designed to carefully screen potential students. Our goal is to attract students who will receive the maximum benefit from our individualized program as well as develop the confidence needed to successfully transition to a more traditional setting.

The Miriam School invites students:

  • With learning difficulties including diagnosed learning disabilities, attention deficits, speech/language delays and/or fine/gross motor and sensory issues
  • With average to above average cognitive ability
  • Who would benefit from a 10:1 student to teacher ratio classroom
  • Who would benefit from on-staff Speech/Language Pathologists
  • Who would benefit from on-staff Occupational Therapists
  • Who are free of any primary emotional and/or behavioral concerns
  • Who are free of medical diagnoses requiring on-site medical personnel

Thank you for considering the Miriam School for your child. We value every inquiry. If you are interested in learning more about Miriam, please call 314.968.5225 and speak with our Admissions Director to schedule a parent tour and receive an application packet.

admissions process

tours
Please call us to schedule a parent tour. After the tour, an application packet is reviewed with parents who wish to apply. Applications may be made at any time; however, due to limited enrollment, applying early is advised. Students are accepted on a case by case basis.

application
To apply, the Miriam School requires:

  • A completed application and intake release form
  • A $65 non-refundable application fee
  • Copies of all recent psycho-educational evaluations
  • A current photo of the child

Student visit
Upon receipt of the above information, the Admissions Director and other administrators will review the submitted forms and records. After the admissions committee reviews the application and determines that Miriam might be a viable alternative for the potential student, families of prospective students will then be asked to visit a Miriam School classroom. The visit includes participation in class activities, as appropriate, including lunch and recess. The school's caring, nurturing environment makes the visit comfortable for the prospective student.

Student acceptance

After a prospective student has visited the school, teachers and administrators will determine whether the Miriam School would meet the applicant’s needs. If the school has space and it is determined that the Miriam School could meet the educational and social needs of the applicant, an offer for admission will be made. Should classes be full, the student will be placed on a waiting list for the next available space.

tuition and fees

2009–2010 School Year Tuition Information
Tuition and fees set by the Board $22,600

Book and Computer Fee $150

At the Miriam School there is a shortfall between the actual cost of educating a student and the tuition paid by a student’s family. Tax-deductible donations to the Miriam Foundation's Annual Scholarship Campaign and other fundraising efforts help make up this difference.

tuition assistance

Miriam’s tuition assistance program offers assistance to families who qualify. Awards are based upon need. Miriam uses an online service to organize financial information. Parents are asked to fill out tuition assistance information, and awards are made in the Spring. Funds are limited and are given on a first-come, first-served basis.

Miriam School is funded through the efforts of the Miriam Foundation. The foundation annually solicits gifts to support tuition assistance for families who demonstrate financial need.
